Multicultural Youth Sports and Diversity Training

Recently, our Multicultural Youth program delivered a sports and diversity training workshop to AFL Tasmania. The two hour workshop explored the barriers that young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds face while trying to access sports and recreation activities.

Tasmanians come from 177 different countries, with 159 identified languages spoken in Tasmanian homes. As this continues to increase, there is a clear need for organisations to grow and provide opportunities that target culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

The team at AFL Tasmania were keen to discuss new ideas to engage the wider community. With lots of brainstorming and sharing, the team drew up a list of actions to make their club more inclusive and diverse.

We are thrilled to assist in developing these action plans and receive AFL Tasmania’s commitment to engage more communities and provide a more inclusive environment where young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds can thrive.

Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania is currently offering free sports and diversity training to all sports clubs and organisations. We can come visit you or we can host you at an MRC Tas office in Launceston or Hobart.
