Engaging CALD youth in Sports – Training (Hobart)
24/09/18 @1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
One in four Australian young people are from a refugee or migrant background. Their engagement as active citizens in Australian society has significant and long-term benefits for each young person, their families, communities, and a diverse and socially cohesive Australia.
However, young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds often face particular challenges in accessing the support and opportunities they need, including access and engagement with organised sports. This training recognises that sport is an effective tool for engaging young people, especially newly-arrived young people. This training will provide front line staff and volunteers in the sport and recreation sector with practical advice and tools to foster a socially inclusive and diverse sports sector.
Hosting this workshop is Multicultural Youth Tasmania (MYT), a program of the Migrant Resource Tasmania. This workshop is guided by the National Youth Settlement Framework (NYSF) (the first of its kind in Australia), and will enable participants to create a social inclusive and diverse team environment.
Due to funding provided through The Healthy Tasmania Innovation Grants we are able to offer the training for free to instructors and associated water sporting clubs and organisations.
