Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania provides safe and supportive accommodation for refugees as they begin their settlement journey in Tasmania. Our goal is to ensure every new arrival has access to secure housing that respects their needs and supports their transition into the local community.
Our approach
Safe and Appropriate Housing: We understand that secure, stable accommodation is the foundation for a positive settlement experience. Our services prioritise safety, dignity, and suitability for each individual’s circumstances.
Culturally Sensitive Support: We respect the cultural and religious preferences of our residents. Our team works closely with clients to ensure accommodation arrangements are appropriate and respectful.
Building Community Connection: We aim to reduce the isolation often experienced during resettlement by helping residents connect with local services, communities, and opportunities for social inclusion.
Collaborative Partnerships: Volunteers, corporate teams, and community partners play a vital role in enhancing our accommodation centre, helping us provide a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained place for residents to call home.
Multicultural Accommodation Centre at Goodwood
The Multicultural Accommodation Centre at Goodwood offers short to medium-term housing for recently arrived humanitarian entrants and provides a community-style living environment. It is a gated facility where residents engage in activities like gardening and resident gatherings. The primary goal is to provide new arrivals with the fundamentals of maintaining a rental home, understanding their rights and responsibilities, and building a strong rental history to help secure longer-term housing.
The facility is fully furnished, includes Wi-Fi, and is located close to shopping centres, public transport, and community services.

A Space Shaped by Community
The Goodwood centre has been transformed into a more vibrant and welcoming space, thanks to the generosity of local artists, volunteers, and community organisations who have given their time and creativity to make it feel like home.
One of the most loved additions is a bold mural at the centre’s entrance, created by local artist Tom Deams. Featuring two colourful parrots and the words “Welcome to Tassie,” it has quickly become a feature residents and visitors stop to admire and photograph. It’s a small but powerful symbol of hope and belonging, a reminder, right at the door, that this is the beginning of a new chapter.
Outdoor spaces have been brought to life too, with volunteers from MONA and C3 South Hobart helping with gardening, cleaning and general upkeep, and C3 generously donating a soccer pitch where children and families can play, connect, and simply feel like kids again. Young people from our Multicultural Youth Tasmania (MYT) program even repurposed an old boat into a sandpit and play space for younger residents.
These changes, some small, some more visible, reflect what we hope every resident feels the moment they arrive: that they are welcome here.
Want to get involved?
We’re always grateful to the individuals and organisations who continue to help us create spaces like this. If your business, school or community group would like to be part of that effort, whether through a working bee, a donation of materials, or simply your time, we’d love to hear from you.
