As part of the Youth team’s school holidays program, in early January two groups went on a day trip to Mount Field National Park to engage in a 2.5 hour bush-walking activity. A volunteer tour guide taught attendees about Tasmanian flora and fauna, the traditional custodians of the land, and natural remedies that came from the trees and shrubs in the area.
They also learned about the dangers of bushfires and how pollution can be prevented to keep water clean. The youth were then given a chance to learn how to prepare bush meals from a limited supply of raw materials and cooking utensils.
Respect and tolerance of diversity were emphasised throughout the activities and both groups displayed great friendship despite their diverse range of languages, countries of origin, and religious beliefs.
