Bridging cultural gaps between generations

Congratulations to the Australian-Oromo Community of Tasmania, who have received a $3000 grant from the Department of Premier and Cabinet’s Multicultural Communities Program.

This grant will support the Oromo Community Language School and Holiday Excursions for Children program.

Cultural events and language schools are important for more recently established communities, and are particularly significant for communities that have experienced dislocation from their homeland.

Language and cultural schools help younger migrants to learn about their traditions. This understanding can assist in fostering a sense of pride in culture, as well as help to bridge the gap between generations, as younger migrants adapt more easily to their new language and culture.
